BN Yugandhar IAS, a 1962 batch IAS officer, served in the Prime Minister’s Office under the late PV Narasimha Rao and also as the Director of the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie.
BN Yugandhar, father of Microsoft chief executive officer (CEO) Satya Nadella and former bureaucrat, died in Hyderabad on Friday. He was 82 years old.
Yugandhar, a 1962-batch IAS officer, served in the Prime Minister’s Office under PV Narasimha Rao and also as the Director of the National Academy of Administration, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Mussoorie. He was a member of the Planning Commission from 2004-2009 and was instrumental in ensuring the inclusion of a chapter on disability issues in the plan, according to official sources.
Yugandhar also served as Secretary in the Union Ministry of Rural Development.
TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao recalled him as an honest, sincere officer.

Many officials mourned Yugandhar’s death and recalled his efforts to support the development of the backward classes of the society. “It is a jewel in the crown of Doyen and civil services officers of Ugandhar IAS officers,” said Telangana General Secretary SK Joshi.
Former Union Home Secretary K Padmanabhaiah Yugandhar is remembered as a committed and intelligent officer.
Telangana IAS Officers Association President BP Acharya also condoled the death. “BN Yugandhar IAS is a role model for young executives to emulate because of his contribution to the field of rural development,” he said.
Narinder S Bedi, president of civil society organization Young India Project, said Yugandhar was passionate about rural development and working with the marginalized communities. “Even after carrying out his duties from the government, he regularly observes the situation in rural areas and regularly follows NGOs to support them. Besides all this, he is a very good and dear friend,” he said.
“There is a style of bureaucracy. The cadre is focused on anti-poverty tactics and Yugandhar is one of them,” said Jayaprakash Narayana, founder of the Lok Satta Party. “He has been instrumental in SC / ST specific component plans – where resources are specifically allocated to them.”
