A special magistrate court in Hyderabad sent ten parents behind bars for a day for knowingly allowing their Children who are minors to drive two-wheelers in Telangana’s Hyderabad city.
Media reported that, a penalty of Rs. Five Hundred was also imposed on the parents, under Section 180 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Amid a massive crackdown against underage driving, a 14-year-old kid was also sentenced to remand for one day in a juvenile home, media reports added.
In all these above cases, Motor vehicles have been seized, and the minor driver(kids) and parents are being summoned to attend counseling at the Traffic Training Institute and later prosecuted at the court.
The campaign for underage driving has to be promoted effectively by the traffic police in Hyderabad along with the drunk and drive campaign in the city.
Last year, Hyderabad city police had a record of one hundred thirty road accidents involving minors and many of them turned out to be near-fatal and in some even caused death.
This kind of things must be regulated by the Traffic police in the city so as ensure safe driving.
