A 45-year-old man, who had come back to visit his spouse with the intention to kill her for filing a cheating case against him and his family, was taken into the custody from northeast Delhi’s Maujpur jurisdiction, police aforementioned on Saturday.
Manish Kaul alias Varun Kaul alias Ashutosh Marwa alias Vishesh Dheeman alias Sanjeev Chaddha tried to shoot at a police officer, however, the bullet got stuck within the gun, they added.
In March, a lady doctor had filed a cheating case against Kaul. She alleged that she came in touch with Kaul via a matrimonial web site in 2015, and he introduced himself as a doctor, police aforementioned. She said she married Kaul in the same year and her father gave gold ornaments value Rs 20 lakh to her in-laws as a gift and spent nearly Rs 50 lakh rupees on their wedding, they said.
After the marriage, her in-laws started demanding additional money as dowry. Her father-in-law, who had claimed that he retired from the Indian Air Force as a doctor, assaulted her twice, she said.
Also, he never worked within the Indian Air Force, police aforementioned.
Later, she came to understand that her husband’s real name was Varun Kaul which he wasn’t a doctor. She conjointly came to understand that he has numerous cases filed against him in Delhi, Chandigarh, Goa, and Maharashtra.
After she approached the city Police, a team from Moti Nagar police office conducted a raid in Panchkula and 2 ladies were nabbed, they said, adding the accused and his father had escaped.
On Friday, Kaul visited his wife’s clinic with an intention to hurt her, however, she wasn’t there at the clinic. Kaul then threatened one amongst her colleagues with a handgun, police aforesaid.
A police team immediately reached the clinic and noticed Kaul walking away briskly. A police officer chased him and asked him to surrender however he took out the gun and tried to shoot when the bullet got stuck within the gun. He was overpowered by policemen and he was taken into the custody.
During interrogation, the defendant disclosed that he’s a BAMS degree holder and not an MBBS degree holder as claimed by him, aforesaid Vijay Kumar, deputy commissioner of police (West). He had committed a number of frauds by getting new luxury cars on bogus demand drafts.
He and his father were arrested in Sept 2008 by the Bombay Police in reference to cheating cases registered in Hauz Khas and Rohini in Delhi.
The accused had conjointly cheated 2 different ladies by promising to marry.
